We have collaborated with Counterpoints Arts on a series of articles in celebration of Refugee Week 2022.
These articles are written by artists, activists and journalists with lived experience of displacement. The authors are creating change in their communities, championing arts as advocacy and exposing first-hand the failures of the UK’s asylum system.
At a time where hostility and violence towards refugee and asylum-seeking communities in the UK has been exacerbated by misinformation in the media and the ‘anti-refugee’ Nationality and Borders Bill, it is now more important than ever to hear from those with lived experience and to learn more about the ways we can all make a difference.
shado exists to disrupt, diversify and decolonise the current media landscape through amplifying the voices of people on the frontline of social change. Through a series entirely narrated by those with lived experience of displacement and migration to the UK, we hope to nurture a greater understanding and empathy of the harm perpetuated by the current system.
Counterpoints Arts is a leading national organisation in the field of arts, migration and cultural change. Their mission is to support and produce the arts by and about migrants and refugees, seeking to ensure that their contributions are recognized and welcomed within British arts, history and culture.
