Comfort Angels
Meet the team bringing inclusion and integration to refugees and people seeking asylum in Liverpool
This film was made in collaboration with Amnesty International UK and was supported by Mishcon de Reya, Necessity and This Fan Girl.
shado has been working with a local football team in Liverpool to explore the power of football and community inclusion for refugees and women seeking asylum.
The unique experience faced by women in the asylum system
In the UK, people seeking asylum do not have the right to work, and instead receive a state allowance of just £39.63 per week. For many people like Hane, the process of seeking asylum and gaining refugee status can take years.
Women are disproportionately impacted by the asylum-seeking process, which can be extremely isolating. Many women also struggle to gain access to English language courses and other sources of community support due to childcare commitments.
Comfort Angels provides much-needed support by bringing communities together and offering a safe space for women to express themselves freely.
