Our Liberated Media Training School
The landscape of modern journalism is in need of meaningful change. We are living in a post-truth society, and with the rise of AI and the mass dismissal of fact-checkers, it’s more important than ever to equip media consumers with the skills to think critically and assess information.
shado is a lived-experience-led community of artists, activists, organisers, creators and writers united in the fight for social justice and collective liberation. We exist to diversify and decolonise the current arts and media landscape through amplifying the voices of people on the frontline of social change and connecting individuals and organisations which might otherwise have been working in siloes.
At shado, we also believe that everyone has something valuable to say. In part, these trainings aim to demystify the journalistic process and to teach people who may not have had access in the past how to get their voices out there.
As such, we’re launching a set of free critical workshops and training for those on the frontlines of social change across disciplines to question common practices in mainstream journalistic production and offer counter-techniques and approaches that support a liberated media ecosystem.
Ranging from pitching to reporting on protests to using social media as a documenting tool, these aim to support journalists who are deeply embedded in the causes they support and build reciprocal relationships with the communities they report on.
We look forward to welcoming you!
