Why are we still waiting for the West to call for a ceasefire?

Why are we still waiting for the West to call a ceasefire in Palestine? Western countries each have their own specific reasons for supporting Israel but to summarise it comes down to two things – imperialism and profit. Historic Palestine is a fertile, resource-rich region and strategic corridor between the continents of Africa, Europe and Asia. Israel shares a mutually benefitting agreement with the US and Western Europe: they provide funds and arms to enable Israel to subjugate the Indigenous Palestinian population and the people of surrounding Arab countries. Whilst land and resources stolen from Indigenous people and hoarded by Israel reap enormous profits for Israel and its investors. But the tide is starting to turn. UK prime minister Rishi Sunak has called for a so-called “sustainable ceasefire”. Why the change of heart? Many are speculating that actions taken by the Yemeni Houthis to block shipments to Israel via the Red Sea are responsible for Rishi’s 180. Direct action has caused enormous shipping delays, and some shipping companies are pulling out of trade with Israel as a result. One of the companies affected is BP – which Rishi’s in-laws recently signed a 1.5 billion dollar deal with. But Sara argues that the failing propaganda machine and the tide of public opinion are huge factors, too. Public support for Palestine has become increasingly difficult to suppress as Israel’s genocide grows more bloody and bold. Money talks. That’s why the tactics of targeted boycotts, and direct action which interrupts the flow of commerce, are having such an enormous effect: they serve the strategy of forcing these money-hungry leaders to respond to our demands by threatening the one thing they care about. #shadomag #palestine #palestinewillbefree #fromtheriverstothesea #yemenihouthis #yemen #bp #redsea #us #westerncountry #rishisunak #ceasefirenow #noceasefirenovote #noceasefirenovotes #bds #boycottdivestandsanctions #settlercolonialism #southafrica #icj #internationalcourtofjustice #internationalrelations
