Today, we explore how Disabled people have promoted alternative ways of understanding disability, especially in the context of colonialism. In the Palestinian context, it’s important to understand Israeli settler colonialism as the structure which is disabling and debilitating to Palestinians, impacting Palestinians in these ways: 1. Exploiting disability – targeting Disabled Palestinians in unique ways 2. Creating disability – intentionally maiming people & causing psychological trauma 3. Creating a debilitating environment for Palestinians – both those who self-define as disabled and those who don’t.
