Secret Israeli Independence Day Party at the British Museum

@shado.mag

🎥What does it mean when The British Museum hosts a celebration for a state accused of genocide – behind closed doors? On Tuesday evening, the @britishmuseum opened its doors to Israeli officials, UK politicians, arms industry allies, and far-right figures – including Jimmy Carr, Nigel Farage, Kemi Badenoch and Tzipi Hotovely – for a private ‘Israeli independence day’ celebration. Despite attempts to keep the event hidden from the general public and even museum staff, Energy Embargo For Palestine organised a protest to expose the scandal – and to demand accountability from the museum. It is no coincidence that this event took place on the eve of ‘Israeli Independence day’ – a holiday that marks the establishment of the state of Israel through the mass displacement and forced expulsion of Palestinians from their lands. While Israeli officials drank champagne inside and rubbed shoulders with the British political and media establishment, Palestinians around the world remembered the Nakba – the catastrophe – and over 77 years of ongoing ethnic cleansing. EEFP are calling on @britishmuseum to: 🔻 Provide full disclosure on its links with Israel; 🔻 Sever all ties with BP, including an end to their 10-year £50million sponsorship deal and any other sub contracts; 🔻 Set up a democratic staff-led decision making body for future political events, public private partnerships, and funding opportunities; 🔻 Rename the BP lecture theatre; 🔻 Issue a statement committing to no more fossil fuels or arms industry funding. ➡️ Follow @energyembargoforpalestine on Instagram now to support the campaign and take action. #britishmuseum #uk #london #palestine #climatenews #nakbaday
